Greenbelt Aliance

WHAT IT'LL LOOK LIKE

The region's cities can transform neglected land into homes, shops, and cultural hot spots where people will want to live and work.

ROOM TO GROW

Empty strip malls. Big box stores in vast seas of parking spaces. Vacant, weedy lots. There are 40,000 places like these all over the Bay Area ready for infill development.

Greenbelt Alliance's analysis finds that this projected development will provide ample room for the region's growth.

This development will fit in with existing neighborhoods:

  • Moderate size: Over two-thirds of the available land will be redeveloped with single-family homes and two-story buildings; 85% of new homes will be in buildings four stories tall or shorter.
  • A pleasant mix: About half of projected new development will incorporate a mix of uses, including jobs, shops, and homes.
